Biography

MALOTA was formed by Alberto Montagner, Max D’Ospina, and Roberto ‘Mariuz’ Mariuzzo in 2014. Since the outset, the project stood out for its powerful, visceral, and straightforward sound. Their self-titled debut EP, recorded at Cheap Studios in 2015, delivers a raw and authentic dose of Stoner Rock. The band's creative direction shifted when Massimo Battistella joined as the second guitarist.

In 2018, the revamped lineup released Космонавт (The Cosmonaut, in Russian), a sci-fi concept album featuring heavy Space-Doom overtones. It was recorded at Groovestudio and produced by Tommaso Mantelli. This ambitious and atmospheric work marked a significant turning point in their artistic path. As a four-piece band, they've consistently pushed their musical boundaries by drawing from each member’s unique background, honed through their various former side projects, including Hittin' Random, A Cold Dead Body, Anarcotici, Mr. Coma, Maso Chiuso, Paul and the Bonopolis, and The Redentors. These diverse influences converged into a sound that's both cohesive and recognizable.

In 2021, they released an EP, The Uninvited Guest, recorded by Tommaso Mantelli at Lesder Studio and distributed digitally via Go Down Records. It represents a clear evolution toward darker tones, infused with Punk and Hard Rock elements and underpinned by nihilistic songwriting shaped by the musicians' personal struggles and the challenges faced during the pandemic. Their sophomore studio album, Scapegoat, is set to be released in the fall of 2025 on both LP and digital formats via Go Down Records. Recorded at Mal De Testa Recording Studio, it represents a new milestone in the band's development, while remaining true to their core essence—direct, powerful, and deeply authentic.

Malota has performed at various venues both in Italy and internationally, including rock festivals such as Pietra Sonica, Maximum Festival, and Metalpunk Fest.
