In an era where “rock music” too often arrives as homogenized, pre-packaged product, truly original records feel like accidents—rare, necessary, and hard-won. The industry rewards the safe bet and the easy dollar, while the bands willing to bend the template get overlooked. That’s what makes this split between Dublin stoner/doom/psych trio Electric Taurus and Italian instrumental wrecking crew Prehistoric Pigs such a thrill: it’s decadent, adventurous, and unapologetically alive.
Rooted in the heavy haze of late-60s and early-70s hard rock and psychedelia, these tracks capture two of the most forward-thinking acts in the stoner/doom underground at full power. Electric Taurus deliver Behind The Sun, a sprawling space-rock blast that channels the raw force of Floyd and Zeppelin, swinging from smoke-choked cosmic drift to monolithic, Sabbath-sized riffing. The centerpiece is the guest vocal from Barbara “Babz” Allen (Crafty Fuzz), whose hook cuts through the haze with commanding, magnetic intensity.
On the flip side, Prehistoric Pigs tear into instrumental desert rock with an almost anarchic freedom—loose, loud, and relentlessly driven. Imagine Kyuss in their "Blues for the Red Sun" era colliding head-on with Karma To Burn, and you’re close to the sublime racket these three disciples of the riff conjure.
