Biography
CUT is a rock'n'roll/blues and punk/noise trio from Bologna, Italy. Their sound has been described in many ways but the band’s favourite one is still "John Lee Hooker stuck in a post-punk straitjacket", written by the UK webzine pennyblackmusic.co.uk
Formed in 1996, CUT has released six studio albums and has been constantly touring all over Italy and Europe, thus earning a solid reputation as one of the wildest and most intense live bands on the scene. CUT shared the stage with bands such as Iggy & The Stooges, Violent Femmes, Heavy Trash, The Jim Jones Revue, The Make Up, Unwound, Royal Trux, International Noise Conspiracy, Eels, Delta ’72, Man Or Astroman, The Hives, Guitar Wolf, Mudhoney and many other Italian and international acts.
Their debut album Operation Manitoba (1998) has been described as "the best Italian rock debut of the year" from the Italy’s main rock monthly Rumore. The band has sixteen UK tours under the belt. Other international experiences include repeated tours across Germany, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Denmark, Poland, Czech Republic, Lithuania, Latvia, Slovenia, Croatia, Switzerland, Austria and shows in the New York area.
The 2010 album Annihilation Road was recorded and mixed by Matt Verta-Ray of Speedball Baby and Heavy Trash in his own New York studio, The NY HED Studios. The album was mastered by Ivan Julian, from the legendary punk/new wave outfit Richard Hell And The Voidoids.
In October 2011 the band released a live album The Battle of Britain. It was recorded during the UK tour in that year. The record portraits the band in its favourite milieu: a fiery, intense and wild live show. CUT released also a 7 inch split album with the Italian band Julie’s Haircut, featuring a mash-up of Hot Chocolate’s "Emma" and Suicide’s "Dream Baby Dream": weird but true!
Since September 2013 the band’s catalogue is distributed by Antipop Records UK. In February 2017 CUT released the sixth studio album of its twenty-two years long history. This record Second Skin features contributions from Mike Watt (Minutemen, fIREHOSE, Iggy & The Stooges) and Stefano Pilia (Rokia Traoré’s band, In Zaire and Mike Watt’s Il Sogno Del Marinaio). You can find the band playing on the stages of Italy, Europe and the UK.
