MAYA MOUNTAINS were formed in 2004 in Venice, but the actual line-up was completed in 2005, with Alessandro Toffanello on bass and vocals, Emanuel Poletto on guitar and Marco Bortoletto on drums. The band is close to stoner rock, heavy psych, 70s sounds and bands like Black Sabbath, Melvins and Kyuss.
In 2006 Maya Mountains recorded the debut album Hash And Pornography with the art direction by Giulio 'Ragno' Favero. The album was released via Go Down Records in 2008. After two years of intense live shows, the band went to a hiatus. Between 2010 and 2014 all members were involved in two different side-projects, called Goliath and Tundra, both under Go Down Records.
Goliath was a collective musical project, founded and managed by drummer Marco 'martinez' Bortoletto. The 2012 self-titled album involved twenty one musicians from the Italian stoner-doom scene of the noughties. Tundra was an instrumental project that brought together only Bortoletto and Toffanello. In 2014 they realized the album Coro.
In 2015 Maya Mountains started to compose new music. Long jam sessions, new riffs, arcane visions and concepts were the foundations for the sophomore album Era. Recorded and mixed by Edoardo Pellizzari and produced by Alessandro Siniscalchi, Era is released in 2020 via Go Down Records.
